Its gentle application makes it suitable for all ages and it can be applied directly on the skin or over light clothing. It consists of a series of moves over the soft tissues of the body, followed by rest period during which the therapist steps away. This allows the body to respond to the work being done.

Nutritional therapy, homeopathy, Bach and Bush flower essences can al be taken when receiving Bowen. However, to receive the maximum benefit, it is advised that no other physical therapy be taken at the same time, for example massage, reflexology, reiki. This is merely to give the therapy a chance to register its message to the recipient. Bowen is the facilitator assisting the body in balancing itself and time has to be allowed for this to take place.
